I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had visually and viscerally appealing action scenes like one would expect from a zombie book, but it was also psychologically intriguing as it dealt with a zombie child's developing mind and how she comes to perceive and define humanity. The take on zombies, or "hungries," is very original in that it's caused by a mutated fungal strain and interacts with the brain differently than most zombie infections do. The main character is the young zombie girl, and it bounces between her point of view and that of four other characters of various ages and backgrounds. It follows a similar pattern to many other dystopian novels, but the ending is unexpected and yet poetically just. It reminded me of a mix between I Am the Cheese by Robert Cormier and the Walking Dead. It was fun, a fast read, and left me wanting to talk about it, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes zombie books, dystopias, or complex character studies. -Nicole
